The Tessendier family makes all kinds of spirits, including Cognac, Gin, Rum and even Brandy. When it comes to whisky, they launched in 2022 a regular range made up of three expressions, Arlett Original, Arlett Tourbé, and Arlett Finition fût de Mizunara, which have been a success in our part of the world. The name Arlett comes from the mother of the family, who bears that name. This limited edition dates from 2024, and is aged in an American oak cask for three to five years, then finished for three months in a 1st Fill Pineau des Charentes cask. It was selected by the Tchin association, a conglomerate of independent wine merchants based in Nantes, France, and it was in their shop that the 1,062 or so bottles found buyers.

Let's Taste It :
The nose is initially light, a little citric, gourmand. Very smooth vanilla, pastry cream. Dry and sandy earth. Toasted cereals. It's airy, with a pinch of icing sugar. A touch of limestone. The softness of a good yoghurt cake, with some orange blossom. Very discreet fruity roundness, which gradually builds up to become liquorish. Fermented damsons, peanut butter. Lighter but oily on the palate, with light fruity acidity, gooseberries, lychee, dragon fruit, macerated prunes, prawn fritters. Well-integrated spices. Sweet potatoes. Finish not entirely successful, with a hint of aggressiveness, agave, papaya, it lasts long enough, without being explosive, hazelnuts, cola, greengage stones. White peaches in retro-olfaction.

In Short,
The nose is surprisingly good. The balance is perfect between the influence of Pineau and Bourbon. However, it lacks a little complexity. The quality of the cask is undeniable, this is a good quality whisky. The palate is also pleasant, although I did find a few minor flaws in the finish, which is slightly aggressive, but it holds up well and is quite long. Overall, this is a good whisky despite its young age. I'd recommend buying it: it's pleasant and interesting, it's bold and successful.
Score : 86
