Among the recent additions to this prestigious collection, this Miltonduff is appealing due to its advanced age, 17 years, five months and 1 days, and its maturation, which could give it a fruity flavour without being overpowering. We have 625 bottles available. The high alcohol content suggests that this is a cask strength whisky, although this is not always the case with Elixir Distillers.  

 

 

 

Let's Taste It : 

The nose is a little light, citrus notes with floral touches, thick caramel, pine honey, vanilla, spring breeze in the heart of the forest, walnuts and hazelnuts, dates and almonds, melted butter, barley sugar, nougat. On the palate, it is oily, rather like olive oil, with dried fruit, dates, raisins, apricots. Woody notes, prominent spices, and a slice of lemon. The finish is quite long but not particularly powerful, crushed nuts, shortbread biscuits, tanned leather, slightly burnt caramel. A hint of bitterness at the very end. 

 

In Short, 

It lacks expressiveness for my taste, the nose is too light, and the finish lacks power. The casks must have been refilled once too often. It's good, but not intense enough, not deep enough. It's rare for this brand to leave me unsatisfied, but in this case it has. I should taste it again, though, as I may have missed something. That said, the price is generous, so enthusiasts can always give it a try, you never know.

They have so much stock at Signatory Vintage that they're sharing it with their friends. First, they let La Maison du Whisky rummage around and come back with the Artist range, but now they're also welcoming Daily Dram colleagues into their homes, and letting them take off with a cask or two. This one is a Miltonduff aged in a single first-fill Sherry cask for 12 years. I don't know how many bottles were produced. 

 

 

 

Let's Taste It : 

The nose is very fresh and mellow, egg custard, brioche, roasted nuts, dates, butter-filled shortbread biscuits, grapes of all colours, golden tobacco, thick honey, a few redcurrants, a mint leaf, waxed wood. On the palate, it's even fruitier, figs, medlars, red apples and blackberry jelly. Brown sugar, soft caramel, some light spices, dark chocolate, dried sultanas. Quite a long finish, very correct, dried fruits, elastic leather, the tobacco turns brown, a few vegetal notes, a grain of coffee. 

 

In Short, 

The Sherry is not too overpowering, the character of the distillery is recognisable, and the whole is satisfying, with a slight complexity and a nice freshness. I would have preferred a higher alcohol content, however. The price is not really attractive, so I suggest waiting for a promotion.

Like a number of Speyside distilleries, Miltonduff, founded in 1824, is one of the main ingredients in Ballantine's Blend. So this kind of independent bottling is always welcome, as it familiarises us with a distillery we don't get to know otherwise. As it was aged in first-fill Oloroso Sherry Butts, we can expect a whirlwind of Sherry.

 

 

 

Let's Taste It : 

Rich, complex and nuanced sherry. Apricots with chocolate chips, blood orange zest, quince compote, dried bananas, figs, blackberries, woody hints in the background. The palate is velvety, with candied dates, almond paste and argan oil. Forest honey. The spices are quite strong but well controlled, cumin, cloves, nutmeg. The finish is long, powerful but not too much, full of liquorice and caramel, coffee with a dash of chocolate, varnished wood.

 

In Short, 

This time, everything is right where it should be, there's a lovely fullness of fruit and wood, it's a fine Sherry. But not a Sherry Bomb in my opinion, there's a certain balance. The public was not mistaken, and it is now almost impossible to find, which is not surprising, given the price.

Chapter 7 is an award-winning independent whisky bottler founded by Selim Evin, a whisky enthusiast, in 2014. They are focusing on Single Cask Scotch and Small Batch Blended Malt Bottlings. Theur wide range A Whisky Anthology is divided in four sections : Prologue, Monologue, Anecdote and Chronicle. It's a very literary project. This one is a pure product from Speyside, raised in a Bourbon Hogshead for 21 years. Only 238 bottles were put on sale. 

 

 

 

Let's Taste It : 

At first cereal-like, then lemony with a touch of iodine, the fruits come into play next, mirabelle plums, greengages, bananas, conference pears, and with the addition of water it becomes more vegetal, tall herbs, bay leaves, acorns, bamboo and reeds. The whole is very well balanced, light but subtle and complex. The palate is smoother, with crushed grapes, exotic fruits, papaya, mango and a dash of vanilla. The spices are rather light, leading to a perfectly measured finish, not explosive but very long, woody, with hints of charcoal and roots. Nutmeg, cola.

 

In Short, 

I don't know this distillery at all, so all I can say is that it's very well made, with a very interesting and pleasant nose that unfolds in three stages, a discreet and subtle palate typical of Speyside, and a nice, long finish. Today, 4 years after its release, it is no longer really available, but then the price was rather attractive. Let's keep an eye out for other similar bottlings.
