The Wolfburn distillery was founded in 2013 in the very north of Scotland. In fact, there was another distillery of this name in the same region in the 19th century, but it did not survive. This one is still young, and Morven is one of its oldest expressions. Sold as a NAS, it is 4 to 5 years old, lightly peated at 10ppm and aged in classic Bourbon casks. Morven is a mountain, 706 metres high, the highest point in Caithness, the region where the distillery is located.

Let's Taste It :
At first it's loaded with alcohol, it has to be said. Then scents of lemon, lemonade, lemon peel, and a cloud of smoke, a barely perceptible charcoal drizzle. Cereals. It's fairly well balanced, but lacks variety. Very Bourbon on the palate, with lemony honey, some almonds and white grapes. Suitable spices, cumin and nutmeg. The finish is pleasant, peachy and sparkling. Extracts of orange and lime, relatively long. Sandy beach, bits of salt.

In Short,
It's not bad, quite well done. When you see how old it is, you think it's a success. But it lacks variety of flavour on the palate and in the nose. It's a bit simple. The price is right, obviously, but it lacks a bit of personality for the moment.
Score : 84
