The Glasgow Distillery was founded in 2012, and makes whisky, gin, rum and even vodka. Its whisky is sold under the Glasgow 1770 brand, and here we have the first batch in a new series, which brings together very limited edition bottlings, this one is the fruit of three casks, first aged in 1st Fill Bourbon Casks, then having followed a finish in Constantia Wine barrels for 1 year and ten months. Constantia Wine is a very sweet South African dessert wine. 980 bottles were produced, available mainly in the UK.

 

 

 

Let's Taste It : 

Luscious nose, lovely sweetness, candied apricots, crunchy cherries, egg custard. A pinch of icing sugar, crushed almonds, blood oranges. English custard, shortbread biscuits, papaya. On the palate, the orange is more intense, but also peaches, clementines and lychees, thick honey, chocolate chips, generous spices, nutmeg, cloves. A rather long finish that takes you by the hand, shortbread dough with fresh butter and almonds, persimmon, melon, pink grapefruit. Fine sand.

 

In Short, 

It's very surprising, very syrupy and fruity, but not bad at all. That's what I like about whisky too, its extreme variety, which allows it to identify with all sorts of products. Here, I have the impression that this is a whisky that is unique in the world. It's still available and if you like curiosities, especially if it's good, I recommend it. All the more so as the price is affordable.

With this A Year Long Celebration series, Hidden Spirits is celebrating its eleventh anniversary, or rather the first anniversary after 10 years. Any occasion is a good one to bring out a small series, including one from Glasgow Distillery, matured for 4 years in a Bourbon Barrel, before being matured for a year in an Oloroso Sherry cask, which produced 256 bottles.

 

 

 

Let's Taste It : 

Slightly delicate and sweet notes, candied fruit, drops of honey, freshly cut cereals, discreet iodine, pears, peaches, clementines, lychees, hazelnuts and cracked wheat, a hint of lemon, very fine balance, very smooth aromas. On the palate, it's pulpy, watermelon, prickly pear, varnished wood but not very noticeable, a dash of vanilla, a pinch of cinnamon, dates, figs, sultanas. Quite a long, very respectable finish, cake pastry, crushed chestnuts, shortbread biscuits, perhaps speculoos and orange blossom, a touch of aniseed.

 

In Short, 

Not bad at all, despite its young age, which is completely unnoticeable. It's typical Lowland, but quite expressive all the same, with lots of fruit and good balance. The price may seem high for a 5-year-old, but the quality of the product will make you forget it. Definitely worth buying if you like the profile.

The Glasgow Distillery was born in 2012, and the French independent bottler Le Gus't appeared in 2013, they at least have youth in common. And together they produced two bottlings in 2024, the first of which was this one, aged for 7 years in a vin de paille cask, a sweet wine in which the grapes were dried for several months before being pre-soured, to allow a more intense concentration of sugar. The result was 239 bottles, which sold out fairly quickly. Le Gus't enjoys an excellent reputation in France.

 

 

 

Let's Taste It : 

Slightly acidic red fruits, cherry and redcurrant, cranberry jam, a touch of rancio or even sulphur, but it's not disturbing. Goji and pomegranate seeds, apricots and sultanas. terracotta. But there's also honey and some yellow fruit. On the palate, it's syrupy, strawberries and amarena cherries, a bit spicy, you can feel the influence of fermented fruit, softly dirty. Relatively discreet spices, dark chocolate. Long, thick and sticky finish, prickly pear, Vieille Prune, grenadine.

 

In Short, 

It's original and pleasant to drink, but a little removed from the world of whisky. What's more, the distillery's profile is a little lost in this very distinctive ageing. Interesting nonetheless, and worth a try, without going so far as to buy it, especially given the price.
