Bunnahabhain 12 yo

46,3°
Distillery : Bunnahabhain - Islay
Ex-Bourbon Barrels and Sherry Casks
Original Bottling
Core Range
Single Malt
Launched in 2010
Unchillfiltered, Uncoloured
Almost Unpeated

This one has been around since the 1970s, but at this relatively high alcohol content, it dates back to 2010. The Burn Stewart Distillers group, which acquired the distillery in 2003, decided to harmonise the alcohol content of each bottle with that of the other distillery it owns, Tobermory.

Let's Taste It :
How subtle, how confusing. A drop of very dark sherry, iodine, sea salt, sweet olives, a hint of peat (2 ppm it seems), gingerbread, chocolate, hazelnuts, amarena. Finally, vanilla, green tea, mint, a touch of herbaceousness, After eight chocolates. At the same time, it's liquorish, raisins, moist brioche, it's like pudding. On the palate, the green tea is very present, as are the vegetal notes, just the right amount of vanilla, chocolate milk, all sprinkled with pepper. The finish is long, caramelised and woody, with a minty aftertaste. It's a bit dry, but very pleasant.

In Short,
An absolute success when it comes to finishing in sherry casks. Beautifully intense flavours and a creamy, greedy character that goes very well with dried fruits. A classic.
Score : 87
