In 2019, Talisker is once again creating great word-of-mouth with this new limited edition released as part of Diageo Special Releases. A whopping 42,000 bottles were produced, barely enough to keep the hordes of buyers at bay. It's true that a 15-year-old cask strength at this price has become quite rare for this distillery.
Let's Taste It :
A dash of milky vanilla. Lemon pulp. Calcareous, mineral iodine. Barley sugar. Chlorinated water, a hint of ether, turpentine. Some fruits, quinces, apricots, slightly fermented. The Talisker hallmarks are there: tide, salt, heather, sandy undergrowth, pine needles, rock and lichen. Eucalyptus. Torrents of fruits with the addition of water. Grapefruit, prickly pear, lychee. On the palate, the peat comes through a bit, but the fruits remain prominent, with a slight astringency, spices, turmeric, ginger, chives. Sweet peppers, exotic fruits, nuts. Liquid silk. A strong finish after all that, long, sweet, cane syrup, pear juice, pebbles, earthy charcoal.
In Short,
It's completely understandable that there were so much enthusiasm. The nose is wonderful, the palate delicious, and the whole is typically Talisker, yet exceptionally smooth, silky and ethereal. A very fine bottling, without doubt the best for years from this distillery.
