The very first Hazelburn 21 yo went on sale at the Springbank Open Day 2019, which takes place in June. I guess it was a hit. Because suddenly, this year, the distillery decided to release the Hazelburn 21 yo as an annual limited edition of 3,600 bottles. So we have here the 1st batch, and the second will follow in 2023. Curiously, this bottle is sold in a box, even though they had promised not to do so again, for ecological reasons.

Let's Taste It :
Superb nose, characterised by intense varnished wood, so much so that I think I can identify a hint of peat, it's nuanced, mirabelles, plum compote, sweet vanilla, pastry cream, but also red fruits, leather, genoise, bread cake, candied fruits, orange marmalade. The palate is perfect, full, smooth and very well balanced, with the Bourbon a little more pronounced, slightly lemony, with just the right amount of spice, paprika, parsley, thyme, rosemary and cinnamon. The finish is very well done, long and complex, the wood returns, heather, charcoal, grassy moss, green tea.

In Short,
A work of goldsmith. It's very well done, I really like it, although I'm not crazy about it either. It's pleasant to drink, you admire the fine workmanship, you appreciate the perfect balance between the Sherry and the Bourbon, but that's all. It lacks a little madness, a little daring. But after all, that's also what's needed, because it's monstrously well-balanced, chiselled to perfection. As for the price, though, I'd rather not talk about it, for fear of traumatising some people.
Score : 89
