This 8-year-old expression has long been the distillery's low-end,
but that's no longer the case since they released a NAS. The current
edition dates from 2011, but it is certainly the exact replica, except
for a few details, of the 8 year old that appeared in the 1960s,
with a completely different packaging. Despite its young age, the
quality is there, no colouring, no cold filtration, and full ageing, like
all Glenfarclas, in Spanish Sherry casks.
Pastry cream and red fruits, it's tasty and sweet, on cherry, raspberry, blueberry, buttered
sandwich bread, a few nuts, elastic, damp wood, almond paste. A touch of
iodine and earth. The mouth is light, a few fruits on a woody layer,
cork and apricot jam, chocolate milk. Some discreet spices, paprika, cardamom, nutmeg.
Final short, but nice and pleasant. Charcoal, crushed
grapes, tree bark, cloves. A mint leaf. Humus. A bit grassy, almost floral.
In Short,
It's not bad, but there's not much to say about it. It is drunk quickly,
because it lacks character. The advantage is that it is not expensive
at all. As far as I'm concerned,
nothing interesting below 15 years in the classic range.
