Another venerable whisky from the Gordon & MacPhail very selective Private Collection range. This time it is a Highland Park distilled on December 17, 1984 and bottled on December 31, 2021, that means 37 years and 14 days spent in a single Refill American Hogshead. Only 116 bottles were produced. A museum piece.

Let's Taste It :
Honeyed nose, fine straw, dry earth, furniture wax, encaustic, noble varnished wood. Perhaps a shade of smoky peat, a hint of iodine and sea foam, a layer of candied vanilla, a zest of lemon. Old books leafed through, fresh breeze, bushes, forest berries. The palate is intense, with the distillery's usual hallmarks, candied lemon, mountain honey, exotic fruits, papaya, mango, cooked bananas, vanilla and spices, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, liquorice, fig, then comes the very long finish, earth and charcoal, sandy, dry hay, cinnamon tea. dried fruits, raisins, apricots.

In Short,
Tasting this intense, complex, delectable jewel was a wonderful experience. The nose is phenomenal, in the mouth it is savoury, and a beautiful finish that seems endless. However, when I see the stratospheric price, I think that I am not overwhelmed enough to pay this amount. I should have invested in cryptocurrencies seven years earlier.
Score : 91
