At Octomore, one year follows another and no two are alike. Editions come and go, and it's hard to keep up with all these bottlings. This year's idea is to use exactly the same peat level as the 14.1, with the same barley, but a completely different maturation. Here we're dealing with triple maturation and a finish, which is about as complex as you can get, whereas the 14.1 maturation is very simple.

Let's Taste It :
Very strong, intense peat, mineral, graphite, silica, slate. Thick, foggy smoke. Gradually, heavy fruits take hold, without being imposing. Morello cherries, fermented muscat grapes. Raspberry jelly. Blueberry tart. A rush of iodine and sea spray. It becomes creamy and well-balanced after a while, but the peat is still very strong. On the palate, it's quite spicy, but also silky, drying, still heavy with red fruit jelly and oily, black peat, black pepper and cumin. Chocolate and cherry pulp. Very chocolaty on the finish, with lots of coffee and a hint of cranberry. A mouthful of earth. But it's very well done. Very explosive and long, it has to be said, charred and syrupy.

In Short,
After a week's opening, it's already better, especially on the nose, which is more balanced. However, it still has its slight flaws on the palate. It's no match for the 08.2, which is also aged in Amarone casks, but it's still a good Octomore. It's a very good product, the smoke is impressive, the finish is beautiful, the whole is quite complex, but it's not completely worth the asking price.
Score : 90
