Every year since 2012, we've had a new Longrow Red. Only in 2016 was it not released. In fact, it wasn't released in 2023 either, but there were 2 Batches in 2022. This one was launched in June 2024, and spent 4 years in Refill Bourbon Barrels, and 3 years in Pinot Noir casks, a full-bodied red wine. 10,000 bottles came out of the casks. This is the youngest of the Longrow Reds; they had never made one under 10 years old before. You can see that the casks are starting to run low.
Let's Taste It :
Warm wine, with cinnamon and turmeric, slightly fermented red fruit, muscat grapes, Morello cherries in their juice. Smoke in the background, but quite heavy. Hot asphalt, tar. Roasted hazelnuts, toasted cereals. Burnt toffee. On the palate, light raspberry, cranberry, a hint of lemon zest, but very quickly the spices take over, pepper and cumin. Powerful and long finish, which slowly unfolds. Pepper, damp wood, coffee, dark chocolate, silt and reeds.
In Short,
This is really the only series I'm not a fan of at Springbank. The influence of wine is often excessive, heady, even sickening. Here, because the ageing was shorter, it's still pleasant. But it's by no means an exceptional product, and it doesn't deserve the price it's sold for.
Score : 87
To Be Listened While Sipping :
