Distillery : Highland Park - Islands
Bourbon and Sherry Casks
Original Bottling
Core Range
Single Malt
Launched in 2017
Uncoloured
Peated around 20 ppm
This is now the distillery's entry-level. It is matured mainly in bourbon casks, unlike the 12-year-old.
Let's Taste It :
On the nose, smoky peat envelops you. It is refreshed by vanilla and lemon peel. And orange, which gives you the sensation of biting into the fruit. Over time, the smoke becomes stronger and stronger. The vanilla is intense on the palate, blending voluptuously with the peat. Citrus fruits spice things up. Behind, there are whiffs of hay, something country-like. The finish lacks a bit of length, but it's good, still flavoured with vanilla, with a hint of lemon zest, and the malt returning to the fore.
In Short,
It's interesting, you can clearly see the distillery's hallmarks. It's a bit less smooth and slightly more peaty than the 12yo, but apart from that, I think it's better to go for the latter.
Score : 82 Beck - Loser
