40°
Distillery : Bowmore - Islay
Ex-Bourbon Barrels and Sherry Casks
Original Bottling
Core Range
Single Malt
Peated around 25 ppm
This is a very old expression, and emblematic of Islay. It was reduced to 40° towards the end of the 1970s.
Let's Taste It :
The nose is a subtle balance of wood, smoke, peat and lemon. There's a slight hint of limestone, earth, iodine and guano in the background, but this is attenuated by some white fruits, plums, pears, bananas. On the palate, oak and a bit more lemon. The peat is discreet. The finish is a tad bitter, with hints of olives, coarse salt and caramel. Not a very long aftertaste. It's more solid than the Legend, but less peaty and less brutal. It's a sort of tamed Legend.
In Short,
A bit light, lemony, lacking in character. I find this whisky dispensable.
Score : 82
