Vault Edit 1°N is a range of four whiskies, each illustrating one of the distillery's hallmarks. This one, the first, is the saltiness. The whisky is aged in the famous N°1 Vault, located in Bowmore below sea level.
Dégustation :
A bit of iodine at the very beginning, but above all you can feel the influence of bourbon, very vanilla, yellow plum, mirabelle, a touch of mint and salt. More like coarse Guérande salt, with ether, a medicinal touch, and the rising tide. Seaweed, guano, thick, waterlogged sand, this is definitely the Atlantic. Still, underneath it all, a pastry-like touch, icing sugar, a dash of gênoise. On the palate, the vanilla takes over, very syrupy, strongly spiced with lemon and cloves, and a finish that's not too strong, very saline, like the crunchy salt patches you find on some beaches, quite long on the palate.
Bref,
It's so pleasant, a Bowmore at over 50°, very influenced by bourbon and quite salty. On the other hand, the price is quite extravagant, you should only buy it on special offer.
