As part of the Remarkable Regional Malts range, Rock Island is a blend of different whiskies from the Scottish islands. Previously called Rock Oyster, the trading company decided to change the name so as not to put off those who don't like oysters. But the recipe remains unchanged.
Let's Taste It :
You immediately recognise the islands profile. It's very maritime, salty, you can smell the shells and sea urchins. Heather honey washed up by the tide, seaweed, mud. Kelp, a bit of limestone. On the palate, seawater and a light vanilla note combined with heather. A few white fruits, grapes and pear. Mussels in white wine. Discreet smoke. Medium-length saline and peaty finish. White chocolate at the end. Salicornia. I think there's some Caol Ila in there, they're the only ones producing such costal juice.
In Short,
It's really very nice, and representative of the region. Having said that, for the same price you can get Talisker 10 years or Ledaig at the same age, it makes you think.
