In 2013 and again in 2015, the Springbank distillery launched two limited editions of this Campbeltown Loch 21yo at 46° (there is also a 40° version). Produced from a blend of 60% of 12 different single malts, most of which should come from the Springbank distillery, and 40% of grain whisky from the Girvan distillery, owned by William Grant & Sons, who also owns Glenfiddich and The Balvenie, it is still, 6 years later, fairly easy to find.

Let's Taste It :
Fairly full on the nose, with hints of grains and other cereals, wheat, barley, puffed rice. Slight dash of vanilla. Hay, manure, a few somersaults at the back of the barn, you can hear the cows mooing. Straw and earth. Barely noticeable smoke, but pleasant. The palate, on the other hand, is fairly light, with lemon, grapefruit and vanilla, but very clear, you don't smell much else. The finish isn't bad, but it's not exceptional either, with biscuit, genoise and more cereals.

In Short,
It's a very good Blend, without doubt one of the best I've drunk, but given the 21 years of maturation, I still expected better. The price is huge for the quality of the product, but understandable given the long maturation. To be honest, I don't really see the point, but there may be a few Blend lovers out there who love it.
Score : 84
