This one is the 2nd in the Private Reserve range, following a first attempt released in 2019. It was made from 9990 bottles, from a blend of which we have no details. It is certain, however, that there are sherry casks, as with all the distillery's bottlings. There is no mention of age, but the whisky is said to be between 8 and 10 years old. Be careful not to confuse this with The Private Reserve range from the same distillery, two vintage bottles released in the early 2010s.
The Sherry is softer, more country-like, with fresh wood and hay. It's full-bodied, nutty, vegetal and earthy. Green tea. A dash of vanilla, chocolate cake, marzipan and cinnamon. Behind, a certain freshness, mint, eucalyptus. The palate is still a little light, but pleasant, with woody cereals, muesli, puffed wheat and rice. Some orchard fruits, apples, nectarines and pears. The finish is drier, more robust, with cola and nutmeg, almonds, but still quite long.
In Short,
A very pleasant Glenfarclas, somewhat original (were Bourbon casks used?), and very interesting. However, I regret the lack of information on maturation or age. I can comfort myself by saying that the price is quite reasonable, and that a purchase would be a good option.
