In 2015, it was important to celebrate the distillery's 200th anniversary. Master Distiller Bill Lumsden decided to launch Perpetuum, a symbolic name that would sum up the distillery's 200-year history and herald the next 200 to come. It is the result of a blend of young whiskies, around ten years old, and much older ones. A whopping 72,000 bottles have been put up for sale.

Let's Taste It :
Milky vanilla, smoky ash. It's a bit sweet, with pastry cream and genoise. A whiff of iodine and icing sugar. Juicy white fruits, conference pear, white plum, Chasselas grape. Ginger. Slight minerality. Bourbon and peat on the palate, spicy with cumin and pepper. A hint of lemon. It's like feeling the seeds under the tooth. Quite violent, long finish, on cola, stretto coffee, soft caramel, brown tobacco, dark chocolate with hazelnuts. Rough earth. Heather. Nutmeg.

In Short,
Perhaps I should taste it again, but I have the feeling that it's one of the least interesting limited editions of Ardbeg I've ever drunk. The nose and palate are on a par with Ten, strictly, but fortunately the very good finish makes up for it. Having said that, it's far from being bad, but when you see that it's three times more expensive than the Ten, even though it's only slightly better, it gives you food for thought.
