Let's Taste It :
Nose typical of the distillery, but not exceptional. Mineral, rocky, salty, iodised, with a hint of vanilla and a good thickness. The sea breeze, the horizon, some fresh fishes, foam. Pleasant on the palate, with deep peat, charcoal, stringy ash, sweet white fruits. Mirabelles, greengages, chasselas grapes. Comice pears. Varied spices that give depth, nutmeg, pepper, paprika, cinnamon. Quite a long finish, earth and peat, lemon pulp, citrus fruits, grapefruit. Slightly sparkling.
In Short,
This is a very good Caol Ila, living up to the good reputation of this distillery, which I adore. The influence of the Sherry casks gives a dimension, without smothering the distillate. On the other hand, this time the price seems excessive for a reduced 10 year old.
