There are two Macallan 15 years, the first was launched in 2012 and discontinued in 2020, it is the Fine Oak, resulting from a triple
maturation in American Bourbon casks, European and American Sherry
casks. And the one we are about to discover, the Double Cask, apparently
launched in 2020,
resulting from a double maturation in American and European Sherry
casks. It looks like the juice wasn't chill filtered, which surprises
me, but a lot of sites mention it.
Back to a more balanced Sherry, between the freshness of lemon,
exotic fruits, pineapple, papaya, and some compote,
stewed fruits, apricots, apples and cinnamon. Always elegant and deep oak, varnish,
waxed leather, shavings, bark. The vegetal fragrances intensify,
becoming forestry, heather, moss, humus. It's very rich. On the palate, it is expressive, silky, the spices finally rise, cloves, an
ounce of pepper. Quinces and green tea, chai, fresh bread. Long finish,
some power, wood and thorn bush, cola, cardamom, chocolate chips.
Hazelnut.
In Short,
It's fine, elegant, balanced. And very expensive for what it is. Sorry, but, as brilliant as it is it isn't worth the price at which it is sold. A shame though, maybe I would have bought if it were more reasonable.
Score : 88
To Be Listened While Sipping :
