At the rate of two Batches a year, this Heavily Peated is conquering the sales sites, and then filling our shelves. This latest batch is still without age, but without cold filtration either, and without colouring. The number of bottles produced is not specified.
On the nose, the alcohol comes through quite strongly, with a hint of squeezed lemon, and a roaring chalky peat. Iodine too. Earthy, cereal-like overtones. Icing sugar. On the palate, it's surprisingly soft, even light after the violent nose. Pear and almonds, steamed wheat. But that's without counting the spices, which turn everything upside down, they are quite devastating. The finish is in the same vein, strong and long, charred, cola, lime and green apple. It's like swallowing smoke.
In Short,
Compared to the previous Batches I've tasted, this is a disappointment. It's quite monochrome and very alcohol-laden. Two Batches a year seems like a lot. They'd be better off releasing just one and taking care of it. It's still good though, and I'd still recommend buying it, but they're going to have to do better.
