Stauning is a young Danish distillery created by nine whisky lovers in 2005. Their ambition was to produce 200 to 400 litres of their favourite beverage each year, but the famous critic Jim Murray got in the way, showering the distillate with praise. As a result, demand soared, and production had to follow. This limited edition is the 3rd to bear the name El Clàsico, the first two batches dating from 2021. Then, it seems, the name was abandoned, and the nine enthusiasts devoted themselves to other bottlings.

Let's Taste It :
Turpentine, juniper, sour apple, Granny Smith. Slightly alcohol-laden, but mainly cerealy, with rye, millet, quinoa. Vanilla and lemon try to find their way in, but don't really succeed. Chlorine. Wood glue. On the palate, is this a joke? It smells of absolutely nothing. Oh yes, after a while, it's medicinal, pungent, the spices balance things out a little, with hints of cereals and wine. The finish is almost right, long, salty, spicy. With a few fruits, quinces and greengages. It's a pity, though, as it tears a little at the end.

In Short,
This whisky contains just about everything I don't like. The virgin casks stand out very strongly, the influence of the Vermouth is both too sweet and too bitter. And it's too young, of course. It was so bad that I wonder if there wasn't something wrong with the sample. Fortunately, the finale almost saves the day. The fact remains that I wouldn't recommend this to my worst enemy.
Score : 75
