Unchillfiltered, Uncoloured, Cask Strength
To coincide with the launch of their new range, this limited edition of 1,154 bottles is reserved exclusively for the French market. How lucky we are! This whisky is a blend of 4 casks, 3 American oak casks distilled in 2012, and a virgin cask distilled in 2010.
The nose is full-bodied, lemony and greedy, with a hint of meringue pie, but the costal character typical of Caol Ila is still very much present. Smoke mingles with sea air and young, fresh wood. Soot, bacon and a dash of vanilla, which is confirmed on the palate. A few scattered white fruits, invigorating spices, shortbread biscuits, barley sugar. The finish in particular is a success, strong, iodised, with tide and sea spray. Very long, drifting towards chestnuts, apple crumble and a clove.
In Short,
It's interesting, but the finish made a particular impression on me. It surprised me with its explosiveness and length, its fullness and the typicality of its character. This is a very fine Port Askaig, quite rustic, but I find the price a little bit excessive for what is only a 10 year old ater all.
