The 2nd version of Octomore's 12th Batch was produced from Concerto barley harvested in Scotland in 2014. Distillation took place the following year, and the liquid was then kept for three and a half years in American whisky casks, as for 12.1. In 2019, it was transferred to Sauternes First-Fill casks for 18 months. This formula had already been adopted for 04.2 Comus and 10.2 Diàlogos. It's true that the influence of Sauternes is perfectly suited to the Octomore smoke.

Let's Taste It :
Very thick smoke. Swampy peat. We're in the mangrove swamp, and you can hear the exotic birds chirping. Moisture-soaked vines, palm trees, tall grasses. A sweet fruity flavour rises up, with marzipan and orgeat syrup. But the whole thing is soon drowned in opaque smoke. A few drops of caramel. White grape, lychee. Icing sugar. Forest berries, black. Mild on the palate at first, then the spices attack, chilli, paprika, ginger, nutmeg. Piles of earthy, oily peat. Behind, blueberry tart. Fig filling. All sprinkled with ash. Holly leaves. Campfire. A long, powerful finish that crushes everything in its path, woody, mellow, but also full of charcoal. Bread cake. Plum liqueur. Muscat grape. Thistle. Oak bark. Slightly bitter note, and finally a bit of liquorice.

In Short,
It's quite an experience! I find the nose very rich, intense and vinous, and the rest is also wonderful. It's more or less at the same level as the 08.2, which is one of the best in Octomore's Series .2. This 12th Batch is definitely a very good one. The price could almost be honest, if you don't get one right away, you're disqualified.
Score : 91
