If I'm not mistaken, this is the 4th bottling of Port Charlotte Islay Barley, following the 2008 vintage at the end of 2014, the 2011 vintage in 2018, and the 2012 vintage in 2019. This one is the oldest, concocted with barley harvested in 2012 from seven different farms (Cruach, Island Farm, Dunlossit, Coull, Rockside, Mulindry, Sunderland) all located on the Isle of Islay. Naturally, the distillation, maturation and bottling were all carried out on the island. For 75% of the juice, the complete maturation was in American Whiskey Barrels, only 25% followed a second ageing in Wine Casks.

Let's Taste It :
The nose is straightaway very fruity, with orchard fruits, pears and juicy apples, as well as exotic fruits such as mangoes, papayas and passion fruits. A certain minty freshness in the background. A delicate vinous subtlety, with a hint of floral notes. Rose Loukoum. Of course, the peat is there, but it's not overpowering, quite damp, charcoal-like, it gives relief but doesn't impose itself. A hint of saltiness. On the palate, the wine's finesse, muscat grapes, heather earth, red plums. Rather long finish, dark chocolate, cola, puffed cereals, loose earth.

In Short,
This Islay Barley seemed to me more successful than the previous one I tasted, the 2011, even if the palate was less pronounced. More mature, with a more substantial nose, it's almost on a par with the 10 year old, which I consider to be a classic. The price is reasonable, a purchase would be nice.
Score : 87
